As every year, World Water Day celebrates the 22nd of March. The theme of this year is Wastewater

The World Water Day initiative appeared in 1993 from the United Nations General Assembly and each year focus on a different theme. Its goal is to raise awareness about conservation and development of water resources. The themes in previous years were Water and Energy (2014), Water and Sustainable Development (2015), and Water and Employment (2016). The chosen motto for this year is Wastewater.

On this occasion, United Nations wants to emphasize the importance of water being treated, recycled and reused as much as possible. Nowadays, more than 80% of wastewater is discharged into rivers or seas without eliminating pollutants. For this reason, United Nations wants to minimize pollution and discharges and reduce untreated wastewater by half, in addition, wants to increase recycling and reuse of these waters and ensure equitable access to sanitation and hygienic services.

In most developed countries there are resources and infrastructures to efficiently manage wastewater. This management is an affordable and sustainable source of water, energy, nutrients and other recoverable materials. Therefore, they can have a profit for the industry.

Aguambiente provides solutions that play a fundamental role in this area. From the projects and installation of wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), to maintenance and utilization services, which have made possible this company to clean wastewater of tons of industries and cities around the world.
Since 1990, 2.600 millions people have accessed to better sources of drinking water -it increases from 76% to 91%- however 663 millions continues with no access to it. For this reason, United Nations wants to raise awareness about the urgent need to treat and reuse water.
